The big picture

In 2026 Saturn met Neptune at 0° Aries (February 20) and opened a new 36-year cycle. 2027 is the year in which that new direction takes its first shape. The outer planets form a supportive pattern in fire and air signs: Uranus in Gemini makes an exact trine to Pluto in Aquarius on June 15 and an exact sextile to Neptune in Aries on January 15 and June 6, while Neptune and Pluto are sextile on June 29 and October 16. Harmonies like these favor inventions, new technologies and new ways of living together more than open conflict. Most of the year's tension comes from the winter Mars retrograde and the eclipses on the Leo–Aquarius axis.

Saturn in Aries 2027

Saturn spends all of 2027 in Aries, the sign where tradition says it is weakest (in its fall). It starts the year at 8°20′ Aries, turns retrograde at 27°53′ on August 9 and turns direct again at 21° Aries on December 24. It moves on into Taurus on April 13, 2028. Saturn in Aries tests the courage to lead and the patience to finish. What is started on impulse falls apart; what is built step by step holds. Jupiter forms an exact trine to Saturn on April 3 and July 12, two of the most productive days of the year for plans that need both vision and discipline. Saturn is at its brightest on October 18, when it stands opposite the Sun. Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn feel it most.

Neptune in Aries

Neptune stays between 1°43′ and 6°40′ Aries all year, its second year in the sign since its final entry on January 26, 2026. It turns retrograde on July 10 and direct on December 15. Neptune in Aries ties dreams to action. People with an ideal will want to actually live by it, and spiritual and humanitarian movements gain a fighting spirit. The shadow side is self-deception about one's own strength, or following a cause blindly. Its sextile to Pluto (exact on June 29 and October 16) continues the long Neptune–Pluto sextile that has been running in the background for decades.

Uranus in Gemini

Uranus has been in Gemini for good since April 26, 2026, and stays there until 2032–2033. In 2027 it moves between 1°41′ and 10° Gemini. It turns direct on February 8 and retrograde again on September 15 at 9°57′. Gemini rules information, media, transport, education and everyday contact, so expect fast change in how we learn, travel and talk to each other. The previous passage of Uranus through Gemini (1941–1949) brought the rise of radar, the first computers and the transistor. The trine to Pluto on June 15 and the sextile to Neptune on June 6 make early summer the most inventive stretch of the year. Jupiter squares Uranus on September 10: surprises at work and in the news. Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces feel Uranus most.

Pluto in Aquarius

Pluto stays at 4°–7° Aquarius. This is its third full year in the sign, and it will not return to Capricorn. It is retrograde from May 8 to October 18 and opposite the Sun on July 29. Pluto in Aquarius reshapes collective power: networks, communities, technology, artificial intelligence and the question of who controls them. Its trine with Uranus (exact on June 15) is the most harmonious outer-planet aspect of the year. Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio feel Pluto most.

Jupiter 2027: from Leo to Virgo

Jupiter begins 2027 retrograde at 26°27′ Leo, turns direct at 17° Leo on April 13 and enters Virgo on July 26, where it stays until August 24, 2028. In Leo it favors creativity, children, celebrations and generous gestures. Along the way it stands opposite the North Node in Aquarius (exact on March 1 and April 20), a tug of war between personal joy and the common good. In Virgo optimism turns into practical improvement: health, work, services and craftsmanship. Jupiter is brightest on February 11, opposite the Sun, meets Venus on August 26 and squares Uranus on September 10. Leos get the most out of it until July, and Virgos after that.

Mercury, Venus and Mars in 2027

Mars spends an unusually long time in two signs. It turns retrograde on January 10 at 10° Virgo, slips back into Leo on February 21, turns direct on April 1 at 21° Leo and returns to Virgo only on May 14. Counting its shadow periods, Mars is slowed down from November 2026 until June 8, 2027. It is a time for repairs and finishing, not for big launches. Mars is closest to Earth on February 20 and squares Uranus on February 17 and May 29. In the second half of the year it moves quickly through Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius and enters Capricorn on November 25.

Mercury goes retrograde three times, and each time it slips back from a water sign into an air sign: February 9 to March 3 (Pisces → Aquarius), June 10 to July 4 (Cancer → Gemini) and October 7 to 28 (Scorpio → Libra). Feelings turn into conversations that need clear words.

Venus is not retrograde in 2027. It shines as the morning star in the first half of the year, passes behind the Sun on August 12 and returns as the evening star in the fall. It meets Saturn in Aries on May 7, Jupiter in Virgo on August 26 and Mars in Sagittarius on November 25.

Eclipses 2027

Three of the five eclipses fall on the Leo–Aquarius axis, where the lunar nodes stay all year. The annular solar eclipse of February 6 in Aquarius falls on the Chinese New Year of the Fire Goat, and the total solar eclipse of August 2 in Leo is the event of the year: near Luxor totality lasts over six minutes, and most of Europe sees a partial eclipse. The three lunar eclipses are only penumbral. Times, visibility and meaning: Eclipses 2027.
